High quality bullion coins and special mintages
For us, the name MünzManufaktur is also our program: Alongside our other popular products, the coin is the centerpiece of the Heimsheim mint's product range.
In contrast to the medal, whose minting is initiated specifically to honor special events and celebrations, the coin represents a legal means of payment - and it is precisely this that can look back on a long history as one of the oldest means of money. As early as between 650 and 600 BC, coins made of naturally occurring gold-silver alloys served as a means of payment for the Lydians, an Indo-Germanic tribe that lived in what is now Turkey. Soon after, the successful concept of payment by means of precious-metal-bearing media of value continued in Greece and Asia Minor until finally the Romans discovered coin production for themselves in the 3rd century BC.
Today, the coin is known to everyone as a classic and traditional means of payment. While the popularity of the coin has always been equally great, its production has changed significantly over time. Once made purely by hand, coin production was revolutionized by the invention of the knuckle-joint press in the 19th century, which made it possible to stamp coins quickly and accurately using less force. Even the production method of the most modern minting machines is based on the technology of the knuckle-joint press, whereby up to 20,000 coins per minute can now be produced.

State commission minting
Since the coin serves as legal tender, minting takes place exclusively in state-legitimized mints. Here, the coin is immediately attributed a payment value: The minted nominal of the coin is to be generally recognized as equivalent value. Exceptions to this are, for example, the renowned South African Krugerrand or the Mexican Libertad - the nominal value of these so-called Kurant coins is determined daily on the basis of the current precious metal price.
At the same time, other models are entering the coin market, such as the agency coin. Instead of state mints, licenses for the production of agency coins are granted by foreign national banks to established mints or large coin dealers. Although this mintage model was sometimes viewed with skepticism in the past, agency coins nowadays enjoy a large fan base, especially among collectors, and can inspire with unusual and exotic motifs. In addition, the issuance of agency coins also enables smaller states to present themselves abroad and to convince with their own characteristic currency - especially color coins are the center of attention among collectors.
In addition to its position as a collector's item, the coin is mainly used for investment purposes. Depending on their individual characteristics, some coins are more suitable as a capital investment, while others are more desirable as a collectible. Bullion coins are coins with high material value, they often exceed their minted nominal value and are of particular interest to investors, as they are characterized by a certain stability of value and resistance to inflation.

Collective and special editions
Collector coins are more unusual as a capital investment, yet they can convince coin lovers with their rarity or their exceptional minting and generate a high emotional value. Often, such collector coins are special mintings, whose motifs are dedicated to a memorable event or a particular person. Unlike the bullion coin, the material value of the collector coin is usually below the minted face value. Nevertheless, the representative coins occupy a special place in the coin scene and have brought it among connoisseurs to a real cult status.
